The Croes Newydd Preceptory was conceived by eight Members of St Alkmund Preceptory No.404, in the province of Staffordshire and Shropshire, who lived in the Wrexham area of North Wales. They were lead by E.Kt. Edward Curtis and E.Kt, Glyn Maddocks with then Kt. Gerald J.C. Edwards as Registrar, they were joined by other members of the Order from Staffs/Shrops. and Cheshire, making up the number of founders to nineteen.

Following many sub-meetings, the name Croes Newydd (New Cross) was chosen, as was the shield for the Preceptory Banner, the Consecration Ceremony was held in Maes Gwyn Hall, Mold Road. Wrexham. LL11 2AD in June 1996 where we still meet in May (Inst) September (Malta) November and March (Knight Templar).
Currently there are 31 members, with candidates waiting to join. Visitors are most welcome.
