This Preceptory, named after St. Hilary of Poitiers, a Bishop in Gaul during the 4th century, was consecrated\u00a0 on 12th January 1907 at the Hotel Victoria, New Brighton. Present were 29 Visitors.<\/p>\n

Over the years, prominent members have included:\u00a0 the first Lord Leverhulme;\u00a0 Joseph Wainwright, an Assistant Provincial Grand Master in 1937 and Provincial Sub Prior in 1951;\u00a0 two Provincial Grand Masters, Arthur Alexander Johnstone and Francis Henwood Ashcroft,\u00a0 both of whom also attained high Office in the Order as Great Constables;\u00a0 Denis Macrae Kevan, Grand Treasurer, Assistant Provincial Grand Master,\u00a0 and Inspector General of the Ancient and Accepted Rite for Province of Cheshire.<\/p>\n

The Preceptory moved from the Hotel Victoria New Brighton in 1919 to the Masonic Rooms in Hamilton Street,\u00a0 Birkenhead, and then in 1923 to Clifton Road, Birkenhead, where it celebrated its centenary on the 13th January 2007,\u00a0 coincidentally on the festival of St. Hilary, when a new Preceptory Banner was dedicated, depicting St. Hilary in traditional pose wearing his mitre, holding a staff, and standing with his foot on a serpent.
